Bio
Paul (Paulcito)
Singer/songwriter/director
Multi-genre, and somewhat multi-lingual, singer/lyricist/composer. In search of the sublime, wandering through the darkness, the dream and the strange. Psychedelic mind, spooky voice. A voice of a soul.
Paul, or Paul Paulcito, (singer/songwriter) is originally hailing from Quincy Massachusetts, USA. High school graduate, Abington Massachusetts, 1982. College/University graduate, 1987, Bridgewater State College. Bridgewater, Massachusetts. Along the way Paul, while living a somewhat normal existence, somehow and somewhere discovered his creative songman voice and song writing ability. The good music that can be listened to here is the result!
Paulcito, as a project in its current form, is Paul plus Long Island/NYC based musician/producer Carl Dennis. Paul sings, composes and creates most of the arrangements - Carl does the rest! What you hear is what you get.
Influences. Not a huge number really but everyone good is influenced by someone else good. As far as some of the bigger names past and present, I’m a fan of the likes of the Pixies, Bowie, Jethro Tull, U2, The Doors, Hendrix, Zeppelin, Heart, The Police, Blondie, Blur, Laura Nyro, Steely Dan, XTC, Squeeze. Lesser-known but equally brilliant and important names would include the likes of Tom Vek, the Woodentops, Spookey Ruben, Wayne Gillespie, Knower, Daniel Boxx, Pale Honey, Jen Gloeckner, Claire Bradshaw-and my latest discovery, the totally awesome jellyskin!
My current status in this industry is.ahh..not well known. Squeeze master Chris Difford is a fan of my lyric writing voice and personal style and we know each other fairly well via Zoom songwriting workshops he led, over the pandemic months that I signed up for and contributed to. Woodentops front man and driving force Rolo McGinty is a personal friend I can count on if I return to London again, has had only good things to say and advice to give. I owe a lot to that band and especially how it was with the Woodies and what they did back in 1986 with their classic LP Giant - Rolo Benny, Simon, Dave, Alice..they were a true colossus! And I was lucky to discover them, as an XTC freak, via the XTC/Andy Partridge connection they had made. The energy was soaring and I took all of that in, spiritually, at the time. That energy force it is still in there, to this day.
In any case...you might gather that I lean towards the freaks when it comes to musical artistry - I do have a freak in there any time you stick me in front of a microphone, as you may be able to tell. But I do have a very soft spot for the very gentle and mannered America and especially for one of the loveliest songs ever recorded, A Horse With No Name. I’m also good with Herb Alpert - maybe that is where it really all started, running around the coffee table faster and faster to Zorba the Greek, as a little one.
Respect! Love! Dare!
